It would be a shame if your smartwatch wasn’t capable of connecting wirelessly. For LG customers, this is an unfortunate case. The LG G Watch R’s WiFi incompatibility came as a result from Android where certain devices were untouched by a recent update that would give them WiFi capability.
There was a statement written by LG that described the situation. Published by website Android World, the company wrote, ““LG Watch Urbane is the only wearable device Currently shipping with the latest version of Android Wear OS and is Wi-Fi capable out of the box. The original LG G Watch was not designed with Wi-Fi in mind and will not have this capability even after the Android Wear update. LG G Watch R will require a maintenance release after the patch update to Android Wear-access Wi-Fi networks. LG engineers are preparing the patch now for availability in the third quarter.”
However, website Uber Gizmo says otherwise. They reported that the “LG G Watch was not designed with WiFi in mind which is why it will not gain the compatibility, but the LG G Watch R has and a maintenance update is required in order to activate it. LG claims that its engineers are working on the patch which should be released in the third quarter of 2015.”
Despite the fact that the LG G Watch is not WiFi capable, the LG Watch Urbane is. So for those who are looking for an alternative, there are a couple of options available.
Does a watch need to have wireless connection? After all, the device was designed to originally tell time. Smartphones and other devices are meant to be connected to the Internet. For those affected by the LG G Watch issue, rest assured, the update will be on its way. Meanwhile, for those who have it, do you feel the need to connect wirelessly?
