It has been leaked that Sony is preparing to release a new compact phone under the model number E5663. And just recently, it’s specs were leaked revealing an abundance of new features. Supposedly, it’s biggest feature is that this is going to be the first Sony smartphone, that has less than 5 inches of screen, to possess a 1080p display.
The E5663 is expected to run on a 1.9GHz MediaTek MT6795 processor with 3 gigabytes of RAM and even 16 gigabytes of storage. Adding onto that, the smartphone is also expecting to be running the Android 5.0 OS.
There’s another feature, that has captured everyone’s attention, and that’s the E5663’s 20 megapixel camera. For Sony to do this, is quite a large feat. Android Authority writes that, “Past Sony handsets have had a 5MP front facing camera or less but the Sony E5663 will have a 13MP front facing snapper, making it one of just a handful of smartphones to have such a large camera on the front.”
However, with these specs being thrown around, it’s unlikely that this phone will reach Western shores. According to Tech Times, the E5663 is rumored to be bound for India. The site reported that, “the model number E5663 is similar to the model numbers for other Sony Xperia phones launched in India i.e. the Xperia C4 Dual has the model number E5363 and the Xperia M4 Aqua Dual has the model number E2363.”
While it’s a shame to hear that this might be an India-exclusive phone, the specs on it are appealing for those who want a small phone. After all the market is teeming with large screen devices. It should be noted that a price tag hasn’t been established, along with a release date. And aside from India, it’s still possible for Sony to release this phone in other countries.
