According to several sources, individuals who want to become or remain verified on Twitter would have to pay $20 each month. Twitter is currently controlled by Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla.
According to The Verge and Platformer, Twitter is planning to launch a new tier of Twitter Blue, the social media site’s subscription service, which will cost $20 per month and come with platform verification. Currently, users just need to demonstrate account notability, be of public interest, and be authentic to request verification on Twitter.
The Verge reports that if the planned plan is implemented, Twitter users who are now verified will have 90 days to sign up for the new $20 per month Twitter Blue subscription or risk losing their blue checkmark. According to “internal communication” and persons familiar with the situation who talked to The Verge, Musk has reportedly instructed engineers to finish the project by November 7 or they will be fired.
Musk stated on Sunday that Twitter’s authentication procedure is “currently being updated,” but he did not offer any further information. The current price of Twitter Blue is $4.99, and it grants access to extra features including editing tweets and changing the app icon.
