At Meta, mass layoffs are anticipated to occur once more this week

According to a Vox report that quotes “several sources working at the company,” Meta, formerly Facebook, is anticipated to announce another round of mass layoffs on Wednesday.

The job cuts are a component of a larger reorganization at Meta, which CEO Mark Zuckerberg has dubbed the “year of efficiency.” Zuckerberg announced in March that the company would eliminate 10,000 positions in the upcoming period, primarily those associated with “low priority projects.” In addition to the 11,000 jobs lost in November, this was also done.

One source told Vox that the number of job cuts this week could be in the neighborhood of 4,000. Although was unable to confirm the rumors, they are not shocking. Prior to this, Zuckerberg had stated that April’s layoffs would affect positions in the tech sector, while a second round of cuts would affect the business sector.

Many teams and projects within the Facebook app and Reality Labs, the division devoted to augmented and virtual reality experiences, have been rumored to be on the verge of being terminated, according to some. However, as Meta works to market its metaverse gamble to conventional gamers, those creating games may be safe for the time being, claims a Business Insider report.

That might be a strategic turn for Meta and Zuckerberg, who have both pushed the metaverse as a hub for e-commerce, work, and social interactions. Horizon Worlds, a social VR platform from Meta, received billions in funding. At the end of last year, there were only about 200,000 active users on Horizon Worlds, so it hasn’t really taken off.
