Meta launched an AI Sandbox today to help advertisers create alternative copies, background generation through text prompts, and image cropping for Facebook and Instagram ads.
The first feature lets brands create different versions of the same copy for different audiences while maintaining the ad’s message. Background generation simplifies campaign asset creation. Finally, the image cropping feature lets companies create visuals in different aspect ratios for social posts, stories, and Reels.
In July, the company will offer these features to more advertisers.
“We’re working with a small group of advertisers to quickly gather feedback to improve these products. In July, we will gradually expand access to more advertisers and add some of these features to our products later this year,” it said in a blog post.
Last month, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth said the company was considering using generative AI for ads.
I expect some of them [tech commercialization] this year. The generative AI team, created two months ago, is very busy. Bosworth told Nikkei Asia that he, Zuckerberg, and Cox spend the most time there.
Meta posted Q1 2023 earnings. For the first time in three quarters, revenue grew year-over-year. While working on AI tools, Mark Zuckerberg said the tech giant was still developing the metaverse.
Some ad tech startups are heavily investing in Meta’s lightweight generative AI features. Last year at TechCrunch Disrupt, Omneky created ads using OpenAI’s DALLE-2 and GPT-3. Movio, backed by IDG, Sequoia Capital China, and Baidu Ventures, creates marketing videos using generative AI.
