Google introduces new EV features with built-in Maps

At its Live from Paris event on Wednesday, Google announced the launch of new features for electric vehicles that include Google Maps.

The functions, iterations of which were added to the Maps mobile app in November, are meant to help EV drivers who experience range anxiety.

It will be simple for drivers to locate nearby charging stations with chargers of 150 kilowatts or higher capacity for a faster charge using Maps on their car’s display screen. Additionally, Maps will recommend the best stop for any trip that necessitates a stop to charge an EV based on elements such as the volume of traffic, the EV’s charge level, and how much energy it anticipates the EV to use.

Maps on EVs will also indicate when locations such as supermarkets have on-site charging stations. As a result, drivers who type “Supermarket” into the search bar will discover that some markets have a tiny charging station icon next to the market’s rating and below the address. Knowing where they can top off their vehicles as they run errands will be useful for EV drivers, who are frequently advised to do so to ensure a long battery life and prevent driving on a low battery.

According to Google, all of the new EV features will be released over the upcoming months. Three months after adding filters for fast charging stations and EV plug compatibility to the smartphone app, Google has now added new Maps features for electric vehicles.

Google is a feature that is included in some vehicles made by Polestar, Volvo, General Motors, and Renault, among other automakers. Beginning with the Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3, Google announced at the beginning of the year that it would roll out a new high-definition version of Maps for automobiles.

The expansion of Live View and Indoor Live view, which employ a phone’s camera and augmented reality components to superimpose instructions like arrows and distance markers on top of the real world, were among the updates to Maps for smartphones that Google unveiled at the event.
