Today, Meta launched Instagram Channels for global messaging. It was previously available to select creators and users.
On his channel, Mark Zuckerberg recommended the International Cricket Council (ICC), director Karen X. Cheng, influencer Michael Le, and artist Daniel Arsham.
In February, Instagram launched Channels to let creators send one-to-many messages to fans. Zuckerberg chatted with Adam Mosseri on his channel in May after Instagram Channels added collaborator support.
Users can join channels in the “Suggested channels” section of the DM. Instagram bases these suggestions on “your interested, interactions with creators, and activity on Instagram.” DM allows broadcast channel searches.
Meta is testing follower question prompts and an inbox channels tab. The company is testing creator tools like setting a channel expiration date and time, adding a moderator to manage members, and sharing a link or preview to Stories.
This month, Meta introduced WhatsApp Channels. However, Channels on WhatsApp—first introduced with select partners in Colombia and Singapore—was meant to give local and global authorities and agencies a platform to connect with people.
