What should 2023 website builders offer? As generative AI developments reshape the landscape, entrepreneurs and incumbents are asking that question. Do prompts and media-generating models make no-code drag-and-drop interfaces obsolete? What abstraction level won’t offend advanced users?
Wix, a longtime web builder, bets that today’s clients don’t want to spend time personalizing their site’s appearance.
Today, Wix introduced its new AI Site Generator tool, which lets users explain their idea and produce a website with a homepage, inner pages, text, graphics, and business-specific sections for events, reservations, and more. Wix co-founder and CEO Avishai Abrahami wanted to give clients “real value” while they built their sites and businesses.
“The AI Site Generator leverages our domain expertise and near-decade of AI experience to tune the models to generate high-quality content, tailor-made design and layouts,” Abrahami said. “We’ve done many tests and had many in-depth conversations with users to be sure we’re providing real value. That’s why we chose now.”
Wix’s AI Site Generator is its most ambitious AI attempt yet. Wix’s new text maker uses ChatGPT to let users customize website content. Its AI template text maker creates all site text. Wix also has an AI domain generator for brainstorming web domain names.
Abrahami claims Wix isn’t embracing AI since it’s the Silicon Valley darling. He believes the innovation can streamline and simplify establishing back-end business functions, infrastructure, payments, and more for customers’ websites.
According to Abrahami, small firms struggle to develop and maintain webpages, thereby missing revenue prospects. Top Design Firms, a database of creative agencies, reported in a 2022 poll that approximately 27% of small businesses don’t have a website and that poor traffic, adding “advanced” capabilities, and expense are their biggest website difficulties.
AI Site Generator accepts numerous site descriptions and uses in-house and third-party AI algorithms to construct the site. The chatbot-like technology asks questions about the site and business to create a personalized web template.
ChatGPT writes the website’s content while Wix’s AI designs and creates pictures.
SpeedyBrand, profiled, already does this. However, Wix promises that AI Site Generator can automatically add e-commerce, scheduling, meal ordering, and event ticketing features based on user specifications.
“With AI Site Generator, users can create a complete website where the design fits the content, as opposed to a template where the content fits the design,” Abrahami stated. “This creates a unique website that maximizes content-related experience.”
Customers aren’t limited to AI Site Generator’s designs, indicating that AI isn’t ready to replace human designers. AI Site Generator users can make modifications using Wix’s manual and AI-driven editing tools.
