Yesterday Sony has announced that the gaming focused arm of the company, Sony Computer Entertainment, has been merged with another arm of the company, Sony Network Entertainment, creating the new Sony Interactive Entertainment division. While this merger may look like bad news for the PlayStation consoles and related products, it seems like the new division will actually make things quite a bit better for currently available and upcoming products.
In a post on the official PlayStation Blog, Shawn Lyden, former president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, has revealed that the merger is actually going to do good for PlayStation consoles and PlayStation VR, as the merger will allow to place an even bigger emphasis on developing pioneering platforms like the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR.
“The formation of SIE will create an even stronger PlayStation. That means an even bigger emphasis on developing pioneering platforms like PS4 and PlayStation VR, world-class games from our World Wide Studios development teams, and innovative network services such as PlayStation Vue.”
The PlayStation VR is only one of the many VR headsets launching this year, but it’s the only one that has been designed with a home console in mind. The headset has yet to be detailed in full but more on it should be coming soon, considering it’s scheduled for a release in the first half of the current year.
