A 35mm Leica lens is used in conjunction with the Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept.
On Tuesday, the Chinese electronics company Xiaomi introduced a brand-new concept phone that lets you connect a full-size camera lens. In a promotional video, the Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH module is shown attached to the Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept phone with “only a simple click and twist.”
Xiaomi confirmed to that the 12S Ultra Concept has an M-mount adapter, meaning M-lenses from Canon and Sigma could theoretically also function. Along with software capabilities like focus peaking, zebra lines, and a histogram, the phone sports two one-inch camera sensors.
Xiaomi declined to comment when contacted, but according to Android Authority, the company stated that the attachment was only a prototype for the 12S Ultra, which was released in July, and “won’t be available commercially.”
The 12S Ultra, created in collaboration with Leica, includes a rear camera sensor that is one inch in size, far larger than those found on ordinary smartphones. According to Engadget, just 10 were produced, and each one cost over $41,000.
