Gionee launched the new Pioneer P3S budget handset on Wednesday, adding a new entry to its smartphone portfolio.
The P3S is an enhanced version of the P3 released in December 2013. The new model runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop and comes with a slightly bigger and better display, still remaining affordable.
Gionee’s Pioneer P3S features a 4.5 inch, 480×485 pixels FWVGA display and it is powered by a MediaTek MT6580 quad- core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz. It comes with 1 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage, considerably more than the previous version’s 4 GB and 512 MB RAM. It is also equipped with an up to 32 GB MicroSD slot, making it a lot better than its predecessor.
The new device brought no news in the camera section, featuring the same 5 MP rear camera and the VGA front camera. The only novelty camera- wise is that the new P3S includes features such as Face beauty to enhance the selfie shots.
When compared with the Pioneer P3 we can see that the new model lost all of the sensors the P3 features, such as the accelerometer, proximity sensor and compass, which is quite surprising given that most gadgets nowadays tend to have a multitude of sensors. But then again, in order to create a low- priced smartphone manufacturers need to give up some of its less used features.
The dual- sim Pioneer P3S has a bigger battery than its predecessor, now being equipped with a 2.000 mAh non- removable battery, which will probably be welcome by users.
Another change in comparison with the Pioneer P3 launched in December 2013 is that the new model will be available in more colors, including white, grey, red and golden, while the Pioneer P3 was available only in white and black.
The Gionee Pioneer P3S will go on sale in India this week for Rs. 5,999 ($90.99).
