Last week it was being rumored that Apple was working on a tool that would make it possible to switch between iOS and Android, moving data such as contacts, music and photos. Apple apparently agreed to work on such a tool following pressure from European telecom operators. If you’re among those who would have loved to get this tool, you will be disappointed in knowing that Apple is not developing it.
In a statement to BuzzFeed, Apple has commented on the rumors, stating that there’s no truth to this rumor, as the company is actually focused on switching users from Android to iOS.
“There is no truth to this rumor. We are entirely focused on switching users from Android to iPhone, and that is going great.”
The Move To iOS app, which was released last year, allows users to move data from an Android device to an iOS one, and this seems to be the only focus for Apple. The company confirmed back in October through CEO Tim Cook that last year saw the largest number of Android to iPhone switchers, confirming that over 30% of customers who have bought an iPhone in the past few months are actually customers who have switched from an Android device.
With things going so well, it definitely doesn’t make sense for Apple to offer a tool mirroring the Move To iOS app, even though it would be the right thing to do. Having more options is never a bad thing.
