Amazon ‘to axe 10,000 workers’ after forecasting weaker growth

According to The New York Times, the positions will be lost in the corporate and technology divisions of the business.
The company that manufactures the Alexa voice-assist tool is making cuts to its retail segment, human resources, and devices division.

10,000 employees are expected to be let go globally, while the corporation hasn’t made a formal announcement regarding the amount. That number would be equivalent to 3% of Amazon’s corporate staff, or 1% of its 1.5 million-person workforce.

It is unknown how many employees in the UK will be impacted. Amazon declared in July that this year it would add over 4,000 new permanent positions to the UK.

Amazon declined to respond when asked if the cuts will have an impact on UK jobs.
