Rivian is the latest automaker to adopt Tesla’s NACS charging standard. This comes weeks after Ford and General Motors announced their upcoming electric vehicles would use Tesla Superchargers.
Rivian cars will get NACS adapters. Rivian vehicles, including the R1T and R1S, will come with the NACS charge port.
“The adoption of the North American Charging Standard will enable our existing and future customers to leverage Tesla’s expansive Supercharger network while we continue to build out our Rivian Adventure Network,” said Rivian CEO and founder RJ Scaringe.
Rivian will build its Rivian Adventure Network charging network, according to the press release. These charging stations may have NACS chargers. The Rivian Adventure Network has DC fast chargers along major highways.
Tesla is rapidly gaining market share in American-made electric vehicles with Rivian, Ford, and GM. No foreign automaker has joined Tesla. According to Tim De Chant, the EV charging industry is finding it harder to compete with Tesla.
