Google TV is expanding its free live TV again. Google TV added over 800 live TV channels, including Tubi, Plex, Haystack, and others, in April. The company announced 25 more free channels today, which can be watched without installing apps or signing in.
Google says the additions bring the total to over 100 free built-in channels out of 800.
TV shows like “Top Gear” and “Baywatch,” game shows, music channels, multicultural entertainment, and more are new.
These add to the free channels Google added earlier this year, including news channels from NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX and others with shows like “Westworld,” “Law & Order: SVU,” and “The Walking Dead.”
FAST channels, or free ad-supported television, have grown in popularity as consumers cut back on unnecessary spending on streaming services and other expenses. Free streaming is becoming more popular due to rising subscription prices, including YouTube TV, and Netflix password crackdowns.
Samba TV found that 1 in 3 U.S. users use free ad-supported streaming services, with Amazon’s Freevee growing the most. Pluto TV, Tubi, Roku, and Crackle were popular.
Today, Google announced the free streaming expansion and the integration of YouTube’s NFL Sunday Ticket deal into Google TV. The NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube and YouTube TV will be fully integrated into U.S. Google TV this season. The company said users can “watch live out-of-market Sunday afternoon games, see top highlights and get recommendations for top games of the week” from the Google TV home screen.
Sunday Ticket subscribers on YouTube TV will also see the content in their channel guide on the Live tab to make it easier to find.
