Microsoft announced their new devices for Windows 10 this week, unveiling the Surface Book, which is the successor of the Surface Pro 3, the Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL, Lumia 550 and the Microsoft Band 2. The Surface Book is a completely revamped design for the Surface Pro 3, upgraded with new hardware and features, all in a rather big size.
Those who have the Surface Pro 3 might want to upgrade to the Surface Book, but seeing as the Surface Book price for the base model is at around $1400, that’s not going to be easy. Those who can’t afford the high price or don’t feel the need to upgrade can now feel a bit better as Microsoft thought about the Surface Pro 3 just as much as it did about the Surface Book before the event.
While Surface Pro 3 updates have been rampant and have caused many users issues, a large portion of them having their devices replaced after bad firmware updates, the convertible is still one of the best hybrids on the market. One useful tip before anything else: if you’ve Surface Pro 3 problems after the last update, do a system restore to a date before September 29, when the last bad update was released. With that, your device should be ok.
The Surface Pro 3 can now benefit from biometric security, through an accessory upgrade if you may. When launching the Surface Book, Microsoft also introduced a new Type Cover for it, one with a fingerprint sensor embedded next to the glass trackpad. The keyboard is compatible with both the Surface Book and Surface Pro 3.
That being said, if you’re feeling like an upgrade would do you some good or if you want to add a new dimension to the Surface Pro 3 security, the biometric keyboard can be a good choice. The keyboard price is a bit high, but not that far from the original Type Cover price. You can preorder the Microsoft fingerprint reader Type Cover for only $129 from the company. Investing in such an accessory might just make the Surface Pro 3 experience better until you upgrade to the Surface Book. The best part is that you will be able to use the keyboard with both.
