Later this year, Apple is planning to release two variants of its iPhone 7 Plus, with one of the variants that should be marketed as iPhone Pro, according to rumors. Judging from other rumors, however, there’s the chance that another variant of the iPhone Pro featuring a superior display might be released between 2017 and 2018.
According to a pre-publication note in DIGITIMES, Apple is planning to launch a 5.8 inch iPhone with AMOLED display panels between 2017 and 2018. The note mentions that Apple is considering Samsung Display as the first candidate to supply AMOLED displays, with LG Display and Japan Display supplying them at a later time. With LG Display apparently ready to supply such displays from next year, there might be the chance that this new iPhone might be released sometime during 2017.
With Apple falling behind the competition regarding AMOLED displays, the release of this new devices would definitely be welcome. The Samsung Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge have shown how an OLED display makes a big difference, so Apple definitely needs to step up their game and offer devices with better displays.
As it always it with rumors, it’s very difficult to verify what has been revealed today, so we must take it for what it is until an official announcement comes in.
