Threads app’s latest update gives more prominence to reposts

Threads hasn’t launched a web version, but the app’s latest update highlights social media reposts.

Meta changed two app reposts. First, the profile page now has a “Reposts” tab so users can quickly browse their reposts. Users can now view their liked posts in the settings page, the company announced this month.

Second, the reverse-chronological “Following” feed now shows reposts. Before the latest update, only the algorithmic “For You” feed showed other users’ reposts. Instagram’s Adam Mosseri said this change was “based on your feedback.”

This update is less drastic than Twitter’s 2009 Retweet function. With this change, the “Following” feed may have more posts.

The Threads team created these hooks to boost engagement, which has declined. Since its launch last month, the app can share Threads posts directly to Instagram or via DMs.

However, a web version of Threads would have been nice in the week X (formerly Twitter) made TweetDeck subscriber-only.
