Players of the long-running Microsoft Flight Simulator series have discovered a secret that allows you to play the first four games inside the cockpit of one of the game’s planes. The 40th Anniversary update for the game, which went out on Friday, also included the Easter egg. You can play the hidden games in your aircraft’s cockpit using the keys on the screen to control the plane-within-a-plane after activating them.
HughesMDflyer4 offered the information on where to uncover the secret on the Flight Simulator subreddit. Select a Diamond DA62 and turn the Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) on the dashboard of the aircraft. Although you can switch between games in the long-running series by picking at the top of the little screen, the 1982 original Flight Simulator should initially show. Although I wouldn’t advise trying to play the game while you’re in the air, I’m sure some intrepid speedrunners are already attempting to fly both planes at once.
In addition flying modern aircraft like helicopters and gliders, the 40th Anniversary update for Flight Simulator featured a number of historic aircraft, including the Spirit Of St. Louis. Asobo Studio’s developers have honored the 40-year history of the series in other ways as well, such as by including Meigs Field in Chicago, the first game’s starting airport, in its 2020 remake. Before it was destroyed in reality in 2003, Meigs Field had been a virtual location in every edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator up to 2004.
Microsoft Flight Simulator costs £60/$60/€70 and is available on Steam and the Microsoft Store. As part of their subscription service, PC Game Pass users can download the game.
