YotaPhone 2: Innovation in a Smartphone?

The innovative YotaPhone 2  possesses not one, but two screens for customers. The first screen is a AMOLED display, while the back is an e-ink display similar to that on eReaders. While you can buy the phone on Yota Device’s website, retailers will not be having the phone until July. It’s price is currently set between $600-$700.

The phone also has other specs. The resolution of 540 x 960 (HD), and the screens have the Gorilla Glass 3. The phone has a 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, along with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. Unsurprisingly, it has an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 2.1 Mp front camera. The YotaPhone 2 includes a wireless charging built in.

In an article published by PC Advisor Vlad Martynov, chief executive of Yota Devices, believes that his device will change how people view their phones. “The typical user picks up and activates their smartphone more than 150 times a day. Why? Because users worry that messages or information they need or want are hidden behind their phone’s black screen,” he said. “Yota Devices proved that there is an antidote to the always-dark smartphone screen. The future of smartphones is always-on displays allowing users real-time access to information without turning off the real world and disrupting the people around you.”

According to E Week, the YotaPhone 2 will also support the usage of social media through the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update. They also said that, “users can turn the YotaPhone 2’s main display screen into a “living Instagram cover” using the included YotaCover feature, which automatically changes screen images for users.”

It’s curious to see what the Russian smartphone will do for the smartphone market. Already, it will be entering contested waters against the likes of Apple and Samsung. However, the YotaPhone 2 will be offering some amazing features that other smartphones will not be able to offer. What do you think of a dual-sided smartphone?
