If we thought that there is nothing left for this year to surprise us, we were wrong. Lenovo launched its latest devices this week. They are the Lenovo Yoga 900 and Lenovo Yoga Home 900. Although the design of the Lenovo Yoga 900 is not that different from its predecessor, the Yoga Pro 3, the new convertible device is better in every way. It has a more powerful processor, a better battery and comes with the latest version of Windows. Many consider the Lenovo Yoga 900 to be Lenovo’s answer to the Surface Book. We don’t know if this was the intention of the Chinese company, but we have to admit that they delivered an impressive device.
The design of the Lenovo Yoga 900 is quite similar to that of the Yoga Pro 3. The new laptop not only keeps the overall design of its predecessor, it also features the same “watchband” hinge. Users will be able to bend the Lenovo Yoga 900 in different directions, exactly the way they could with the Yoga Pro 3. The Lenovo Yoga can be used as a laptop, as a tablet or in tent- mode. The Continuum feature offered by Windows 10 will now make it even easier and smoother to switch between the modes offered by this convertible laptop. The Lenovo Yoga 900 comes in three different colors: Platinum Silver, Champagne Gold and Clementine Orange. Although the orange colored device might not be everyone’s cup of tea, the silver version is quite classy and the gold one will probably remind people of the gold MacBook. Since the design of the Lenovo Yoga 900 is extremely eye- catching, probably its color won’t even matter in the end.
One thing that did change in design is that the Lenovo Yoga 900 is a little bit thicker and heavier than its predecessor. However, the Lenovo Yoga 900 still remained portable enough at 2.8 pounds for users to carry it around. There are some other tweaks in the design also, including the specially designed vents in the hinge. These were created for excellent cooling, dust-resistance, and a clean design that’s quiet. The battery was also replaced with a bigger, 4 Cell 66 Watt Hour Li-Polymer one. This is supposed to ensure up to 9 hours of battery life, at least without being connected to Wi- Fi and with a reduced display brightness. When normally used it will definitely last for a shorter period of time. Still, it will probably have better battery life than the Yoga Pro 3.
The Lenovo Yoga 900 has a 13.3- inch IPS display with 3200 x 1800 QHD resolution and 300 nits. The image quality delivered by the Lenovo Yoga 900 is quite high so customers should expect great visual experience from this laptop. The Yoga 900 comes with a 1 MP 720p HD CMOS Camera and JBL Stereo Speakers with Dolby Audio. The Lenovo Yoga 900 also offers impressive connectivity due to its numerous ports. It comes with two USB 3.0 ports, a Type C 3.0 port with video out, a DC-in with USB 2.0 function, a 4- in- 1 card reader and an audio combo jack.
What is truly different in the new Lenovo Yoga 900 compared to the Yoga 3 Pro is its processor. The Lenovo Yoga 900 is powered by sixth generation Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors. These will make the Lenovo Yoga 900 more powerful and faster than its predecessor. In combination with the better OS, users will surely sense the difference between the two devices of the Yoga family. The Lenovo Yoga 900 includes up to 16 GB LP-DDR3L and is available with up to 512 GB SSD storage. Less powerful version come with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB internal storage.
The latest members of the Yoga family, as we already stated, works with Windows 10. Besides the features offered by the latest version of the operating system, Lenovo Yoga 900 users will also get a few Yoga features to make their experience more fun. These features include Lenovo® Photo Master 2.0, which, according to Lenovo “combines a modern photo library with powerful, easy-to-use navigation and editing tools.” It offers features like Auto Face Replace and Smart Event Sort, so organizing and optimizing images will be easier than ever.
The Lenovo Yoga 900 is overall a good looking convertible laptop with a lot going on under the hood. It became available starting October 19 on Best Buy and Lenovo’s website. Prices start from $1,199 in the US. Although international prices weren’t released yet, it will probably cost a little more in Europe and Australia.
