With all the positive reviews that ASUS got for the Asus ZenFone 2, it seems like the company is taking advantage of the hype around them and launching yet another smartphone, this time a selfie-centered one. Although the ZenFone Zoom is an interesting photography-centered smartphone, it is nowhere near as popular as the ZenFone 2. Asus is aiming to fix that with the new ZenFone Selfie, which is, you guessed it, a selfie-smartphone.
The ZenFone Selfie is not official just yet, but rumors say the company will be launching the new niche smartphone as early as next week. Even if that ZenFone Selfie release date seems too soon, our hunch is that the rumors refer to Asian regions, the global release probably happening a few months from now.
New leaks suggest that the ZenFone Selfie is going to be a full-blown selfie machine with two 13 MP cameras on each side of the phone. Since it’s a phone made for selfies (because you can’t call them any other way), the company added laser autofocus and dual LED flash to the front camera, so creating high quality self-portraits will be a breeze with this machine.
People are increasingly interested in self-portraits, and Asus (as well as many others) is taking advantage of our egocentric tendencies. But the ZenFone Selfie won’t be all about the camera, as it will also include special features, similar to HTC’s Eye Experience, as well as good specs. The ZenFone Selfie will reportedly sport the same design as the ZenFone 2, and a 5.5 inch FHD display, an octa-core MediaTek CPU, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage, Android 5.0 Lollipop and a mciroSD card slot.
A Taiwanese blog called Sogi reports that the ZenFone Selfie launch date is set for June 2 during the Computex 2015 conference in Taipei. Although these rumors are not confirmed by the company, it is said that the new phone will be accompanied by a duo of Android tablets, too. Whether Sogi is right about the ZenFone Selfie will be decided on June 2, so stay tuned.
