Although the Elephone M2 is more than affordable, its specs sheet is comparable to that of smartphones manufactured by globally known companies. In order to prove this we decided to make a quick comparison between the Elephone M2 and the LG G4, also released this year.

Elephone M2 – Display, features, specs and camera

The Elephone M2 is a good looking device. It is extremely slim, it has curved edges on the top and on the bottom and it has a rather elegant look. On the front of the Elephone M2 there is a physical home button which also houses the fingerprint sensor, alongside two capacitive buttons for quick managing of the device. On the top of the front panel we have a camera and an infrared port. In the upper corner of the back panel there is the primary camera, situated on a black bulge, just like the back camera of the Nexus 6P. The body of the Elephone M2 is 85% metal, so it looks and feels like a premium device.

The display featured on the Elephone M2 is a 5.5- inch, full HD LG screen. It is a 5 points capacitive touchscreen, with 400 ppi pixel density. The Elephone M2 is powered by a octa- core MTK6753 64bit processor that is clocked at 1.3 GHz. The Elephone M2 features a ARM Mali720 GPU and runs on a modified version of Android 5.1 Lollipop. The Elephone M2 includes 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB internal storage. This can be extended by up to 128 GB due to the TF card slot the Elephone M2 features.

As for its camera system, the Elephone M2 has a 13 MP Sony back camera with f/2.0 aperture. Users can also take advantage of the touch focus and auto focus features, alongside the flashlight in order to take great pictures. The secondary camera of the Elephone M2 is a 5 MP one, with no flashlight on the front panel. After taking pictures, users will be able to easily transfer them due to the Wi- Fi and Bluetooth connectivity the Elephone M2 has to offer. It also has GPS connectivity, support 3G and 4G and light sensing is one of the Elephone M2’s extra features. The battery of the Elephone M2 is a pretty modest one, it’s only a 2600 mAh battery, but to be honest we’ve seen high- end devices with worse batteries than that.

Elephone M2 compared to the LG G4 – Display, features, specs and camera

The LG G4 was released in the spring. It has a curved body, both on the upper and the lower side. It has no physical buttons on the front panel, the camera and the fingerprint sensor are situated on the back panel of the LG G4. It comes in two versions. One of them is clothed in leather, the other one is made out of plastic. Although it is a highly finished plastic, that almost feels as premium as metal, the 85% metal body of the Elephone M2 suddenly sounds a lot better.

The LG G4’s display is also a 5.5- inches one, but it does come with higher resolution and pixel density, so the image it delivers is of higher quality. The display of the LG G4 is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, so it’s not only more beautiful, but also more durable than the display on the Elephone M2. The CPU of the LG G4 has a hexa- core Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 chipset and Adreno 418 GPU.

When it comes to memory and storage, the LG G4 offers the same 3GB of RAM and 32 GB internal storage, extendable by up to 128 GB thanks to the microSD card slot, just as the Elephone M2. The cameras of the LG G4 on the other hand are better. It features a 16 MP back camera and a 8 MP secondary camera which are both better than the Elephone M2’s 13, respectively 5 MP cameras. The camera system is also paired with a number of extra features to enhance picture and video quality.

The LG G4 also has Wi- Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, alongside GPS and NFC. Optional Wireless Charging and Fast chargin features are available on the LG G4, while the Elephone M2 does not offer such features.  The LG G4 comes with a 3000 mAh battery, which is higher capacity than the one found in the Elephone M2. The price of the LG G4 unlocked starts at $584.99 and goes way up to $629.99, so it’s more than three times the price of the Elephone M2.

The verdict

We can’t deny that the leather version of the LG G4 certainly offers a more premium feel than the Elephone M2 does, but we also have to admit that the plastic version feels cheaper and a lot less premium. The display and the camera of the LG G4 on the other hand are unquestionably of higher quality than the ones of the Elephone M2. The chipset and the battery are also more powerful than the same features of the Elephone M2. But are these extra or simply a tad better features worth  almost $500? We think that for those users who only need a smartphone to talk on and surf the internet on, the Elephone M2 is just as good as the much pricier LG G4. Of course, if you want a better camera and a faster smartphone, you should opt for the more expensive device. So, if you want a usable smartphone instead of a fancy but extremely pricey one, don’t forget to pre- order the Elephone M2 on Wednesday, staring 13: 00 GMT for only $149.99, only on Everbuying.
