Chainlink, a web3 services platform, told that it is making a self-service, serverless platform to help developers connect their decentralized applications (dApps) or smart contracts to any Web2.0 API.
According to Kemal El Moujahid, chief product officer at Chainlink Labs, the new platform, Chainlink Functions, also enables developers to conduct customized computations on Web 2.0 APIs across its network in a matter of minutes.
El Moujahid stated, “Our aim is to empower developers to combine the finest of web3 smart contracts with the power of web2.0 APIs.” What this does is create a huge potential for building apps that blend the best of Web 2.0 and smart contracts.”
Chainlink is renowned for its Ethereum-focused blockchain that offers a smart contract oracle network. In essence, it links on-chain data to external systems to allow smart contracts to carry out transactions based on inputs and outputs from the real world. According to the platform’s website, since the middle of February, over $7 trillion in transaction value has been made possible.
El Moujahid says that there are about 30 million developers in the world, but only a few hundred thousand are making blockchain apps right now.
Chainlink Functions wants to be a bridge between the two to encourage more people to use them.”Web3 will not be a binary concept. I’ve witnessed this in AI, the man added. Making AI easy to integrate into apps was the key to mainstream adoption. The same is true of Web3. It’s not necessary to develop your full software on-chain. It will be a spectrum, with elements of Web 2.0 APIs and smart contracts.
Although there are few ways for dApps to link with them, there has been an increase in demand for combining blockchain technology with more conventional business models and technologies, such as SaaS or APIs.
El Moujahid says that the things Web3 developers can do with smart contracts are limited because they can’t use Web 2.0 APIs.And Web 2.0 developers want to create new services using Web characteristics, but they don’t want to have to redesign their infrastructure and tool sets.
Also, this new platform supports more commonly known programming languages like JavaScript, allowing new web developers to enter the market. Additionally, it will offer connectors with Meta, AWS, and other services.
The ability to create Web3 apps is provided to the “millions of developers who utilize Amazon and Meta APIs,” the speaker continued. This will make it possible for developers to investigate new use cases and disrupt brand-new sectors much more quickly.
For example, the platform lets web3 developers connect to AWS Data Exchange and AWS Lambda and use their marketplace to access datasets. This gives their dApps more ways to be used and more options for what they can do.
Using Meta, for example, web3 developers can use Chainlink Functions to link social networking and small e-commerce operations with a smart contract and automatically start on-chain actions based on what’s happening off-chain.

Yet, if these services are unable to link to Web2 data or services, they cannot have a real-world impact.
El Moujahid says that because the platform is serverless, developers may not have to worry about “the overhead of managing and protecting the infrastructure on which their code will run.”
He continued, “They just need to create a few lines of Javascript code, and it runs on Chainlink infrastructure automatically. To enable developers to concentrate on their business logic, we abstracted away all of this complexity. This is quite similar to what cloud services like Google Cloud Functions and AWS Lambda have done for cloud developers.
At the moment, the platform is in private beta on the test networks for Ethereum and Polygon.El Moujahid said that Chainlink plans to go live on the mainnet “as soon as possible,” build new integrations and tools, and add more blockchains to its list of supported services.
