Google uses gen-AI to help Indians find government welfare programs

At its Google for India event, Google announced several generative AI tools. The features include images, videos, and government scheme information.

Google announced today that users will be able to view summaries of over 100 Indian government-led schemes in the coming weeks. The feature will provide Hindi and English information.

The search giant said it is localizing and visualizing search generative experiments (SGE) in India by showing images and videos. If a person searches for “How to drape a saree,” they will get step-by-step instructions for different styles. A video will accompany the results.

The search generative experience (SGE) will list useful user reviews when searching for local information like things to do in a city, according to the company. If you ask “Is Jaipur fort wheelchair friendly?” generative-AI search results will show user reviews.

The Google Maps app already lists wheelchair-accessible businesses and places. The company added wheelchair-friendly shopping routes to Maps recently.

Google launched the search generative experience (SGE) in India in August with a toggle to switch from Hindi to English without leaving the results page. The company said ads would appear in dedicated slots in generative-AI search results.
