iOS 9.0.2 update fixes security flaw

Some people thought that the reported iOS 9 security flaw was fake. Others believed that it can be a serious problem for iOS 9 users. Since Apple didn’t comment on this issue, we couldn’t know anything for sure. Since the company released a iOS 9 update 30 September, the iOS 9.0.2, it seems that the problem was real and Apple devices could be accessed without a password.

Apple released the iOS 9 update yesterday and the latest iOS 9.0.2 includes a fix for the security issue Siri was to blame for. Since the problem seemed to be caused by the fact that Siri could be enabled even when the device was locked, the fix consists in blocking the personal assistant feature. Not totally of course, only when the Apple device is idle or locked. This way the lock screen will actually do what it was supposed to and block stranger’s access to the content of the device. Since due to the lock screen issue outsiders could access contacts, messages and photos, this was considered to be a serious security flaw of the iOS 9. iOS 9.0.2 is available for iPhone 4s and later, iPod touch (5th generation) and later, iPad 2 and later.

Since Apple stated that the iOS 9 was downloaded by more than half of Apple’s customers in the first weekend after its release, there were a lot of people exposed to the risk the security flaw brought along. Fortunately, where there’s a problem there is usually a solution also. And Apple moved quite quickly in fixing the problem by releasing the iOS 9.0.2 update. Due to the iOS 9.0.2 every Apple device has a more efficient lock screen. Thanks to the iOS 9.0.2 users don’t have to worry about disabling Siri, which could be difficult for some of them. They only have to download the iOS 9.0.2 update and the problem will automatically be fixed.

The iOS 9.0.2 is said to fix other bugs and issues also, like the iCloud backup issues, iMessage activation problems and a bug with mobile data settings. Since security needed to be strengthened Apple also addressed an issue regarding Podcast security through the iOS 9.0.2. This is the second update of the iOS 9 in a fairly short period of time. Let’s hope that other updates won’t be needed for  awhile. At least not for fixing security issues.
