Apple users can save $650 if they turn in their MacBook for a Surface

Apple’s toughest competitor when it comes to smartphones is definitely Samsung. When it comes to laptops, things change. Microsoft is the one the Cupertino-based company needs to keep an eye on. Microsoft recently launched the Surface Studio, which is a lot like an iMac. However, this isn’t the immediate problem for Apple. The fact that they are offering a price cut of up to $650 if MacBook users turn in their devices in order to get a new Surface Book or Surface Pro laptop is. From the point of view of possible customers, this can be a great thing. But when it comes to the race between the two companies, some might say that Microsoft is playing dirty.

Truth is, the news Microsoft Surface Book has some features that the MacBook lacks. For instance, Apple still didn’t go all the way in delivering a touchscreen to its customers. They may have included a rather cool touchpad in their latest computers, but in 2016 this may prove to be insufficient. Why trade in a fully functioning touchscreen and the use of a Surface Pen for only one line of interchangeable icons? Especially, since both the price of the Surface Book and the MacBook start at $1.499.

One aspect that could turn Apple fans away from the MacBook is the fact that in order to connect their iPhones to the new laptop line, they need to invest in other accessories too. Another thing is that the Windows 10 Surface Books currently run on is a lot easier to use on a daily basis than the operating system of Apple’s laptops. The Windows 10 has a lot of great features that are perfect for work and creative purposes. On the other hand, it’s really hard to make people give up on their Apple devices. More often than not, people tend to stick with the  devices and operating system they are used to work on. We are creatures of habit, after all.

It’s hard to say whether Microsoft’s trading program will be the success the tech giant expects it to be, or not. The loyalty towards Apple could prove to be stronger than the need for innovation. Which one would you choose? Would you trade your MacBook for a Surface Book or a Surface Pro? If yes, why? If no, what would stop you to do it?
